Tinnitus Supplement Study Review: Reading the Trials

Quick answer

A tinnitus supplement study is only useful if it tests people with tinnitus, uses a placebo group and reports a clear result. The ginkgo and zinc trials that meet this bar found little or no benefit. No study has tested Quietum Plus, so no result from any trial can be applied to its capsules.

How do you read a tinnitus supplement study?

Read a tinnitus supplement study by checking who was tested, what they took, who got a placebo and how ringing was measured. Each answer changes how much the result means.

The strongest evidence comes from randomized trials, where chance decides who gets the supplement. Cochrane reviews pool such trials. Lab and animal studies are background only, and the FTC says they are not enough alone to back a health claim (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance).

  1. Who took part

Adults with tinnitus, not healthy volunteers or cells in a dish.

  2. What they took

One named product at a stated amount.

  3. What was measured

A ringing questionnaire, not just a vague feeling.

What did the ginkgo and zinc reviews find?

The ginkgo review found little or no effect, and the zinc review found no evidence of benefit. Both rate the evidence as weak.

The ginkgo review covered 12 trials with 1,915 people and judged bias high or unclear (Cochrane, Ginkgo for Tinnitus). The zinc review found 3 trials with 209 adults (Cochrane, Zinc for Tinnitus). Ginkgo is not in Quietum Plus. Zinc is listed by name only, with no amount printed.

Why can't trial results be applied to a different product?

A trial result belongs to the product, the dose and the people tested. Change any of those and the result may not hold.

The Quietum Plus sales page says its formula is "supported by several dozen studies". None of the studies it lists tests Quietum Plus. Evidence for single ingredients, mostly in labs or other conditions, does not show that a blend of 18 works for ringing. Even a good trial of one herb says nothing about the others in the capsule.

No amounts, no comparison

The bottle prints no amounts, so no study dose can be matched to it. Never assume one does.

What should you do instead of relying on one study?

Rely on guidelines, which weigh all the trials. The 2026 guideline advises clinicians not to recommend supplements for persistent, bothersome tinnitus and favors CBT and hearing aid checks (AAO-HNSF Tinnitus Update 2026).

Quietum Plus is a dietary supplement in a white bottle of 60 capsules. Its front lists Clear Mind, Memory & Focus and Mood Support. It prints no serving, so follow your bottle's label. See the hearing supplements guide and our editorial standards, and ask your doctor or pharmacist before use. Keep taking prescribed medicine.

  • Get a hearing exam for ringing that lasts or sits in one ear.
  • Ask about CBT if ringing wears you down.
  • Treat any supplement as optional and unproven.

01FAQ

Reading the trials questions

What is a Cochrane review?

A Cochrane review gathers all good trials on one question and pools their results using set methods. It is among the most trusted ways to judge a treatment. Its conclusions are often cautious when trials are small or biased.

Does a small positive study mean a supplement works?

No. A small study can show a change by chance, or reflect expectation. Real support comes from larger, placebo-controlled trials that others repeat. Until then, treat the result as a question, not an answer.

Are the studies listed on a sales page good evidence?

Not by themselves. Check whether each one tested the exact product in people with tinnitus. Lab, animal and single-ingredient studies are background. Our editorial standards say we weigh sources by this test.
